Happy New Year & Review of 2009

A Happy New Year to all members of the Loch Ness Whisky Parliament (and interested parties).
2009 was a great first year of our Parliament with four meetings and one whisky dinner. Highlights included.

Malcolm Waring arriving on the 20th of March with six samples of Old Pulteney.

The 25 year old Olorosso Cask sample.

The Fish Pie made for the Old Pulteney tasting.

The first eleven MWPs signing up on the night of the 20th March.

Raising £1,000 pounds for the Help for Heroes Charity.

Having all seven bottles for the H4H night donated by very generous people.

The Rare Malts 1975 Glen Albyn bottling which everybody agreed was
the star of the night.

Making £150 from a framed Ian Gray print of Bowmore at the H4H auction.

Georgie Crawford’s (MWP for Longmorn) Talisker Tasting for our RNLI Night, with the help of Mitch from Diageo.

The 18 year old Talisker - One by the Fireside – Anytime – MWP for Glen Ord

Inventive Tasting Notes e.g. Talisker 25 Year Old 2008 – This whisky has everything with a smooth and uncomplicated palate. It has a brief finish in the Key of G!! – MWP for Talisker.

Probably the best lot at any whisky auction being a giant hip flask containing almost a litre of the 10 year old Talisker. Bought by the MWP for Bunnahabhainn.

Another £1500 raised for another good cause! This time, the RNLI.

Fiddler’s Highland Restaurant & Malt Whisky Bar winning the SLTN Malt Whisky Bar of the Year for the 3rd year in a row!
Oh, and Kissing Kelly Brook as well!

Five great drams served with a three course dinner for the special LNWP price of £20!

A restaurant full of whisky lovers all enjoying great food like Cullen Skink and Roast Sirloin with Haggis Skirlie and great whisky like the 30 year old Black Bull blend and the 12 year old Hazelburn.

Annabel Meikle’s (MWP for Bladnoch) Glenmorangie Experience on the 4th December with the help of Cory Soutar. Which of course was equally as good as the MWP for Longmorn’s tasting.

The Venison, Black Pudding and Chocolate Sausage with Fiddler’s own Red Onion Chutney Coupled with Glenmorangie Sonnalta.

Even better Tasting Notes eg.
Descriptive - Hot and Cold like a Swedish Sauna
MWP for Longmorn on the Signet.
Short and to the point – Sonnalta is Amazing!
Danielle Menzies guest of MWP for Glen Ord.
Cryptic – Oh my god, Oh my god, Jon was wrong!
MWP for Glenlivet on the Signet??

Looking forward to 2010 when we will be carrying on the good work of the LNWP. There was talk of an Irish Whiskey Tasting but this will have to wait for now. The next Parliament Night will be in March (exact date will follow soon) and once again we will have another night of Good Drams coupled with Good Company.

On the weekend of the 14/15th May I am planning a Weekend of Whisky. Hopefully our Local Distilleries will be involved and we will have a chance to enjoy our local Highland Whiskies here in their natural home. There will be an “extra special” tasting on the Friday night followed by various tastings on Saturday afternoon and a bit of a party on the Saturday night. Details will follow.

Finally, our Parliamentary Blog is just about ready and after some final touches we will see the launch of it within the next few weeks.

HAPPY NEW YEAR AND ALL THE BEST FOR 2010 FROM
